1. A WORD FROM THE EDITOR:
One of the nicest things about being a "webmaster" is the
rewarding contact with visitors and ezine subscribers. Thanks to
all you "e-friends" out there who have contacted me with
support, encouragement and suggestions – you touch my life in a
special way!
================================================================
2. A LITTLE POLL!
I’m interested to know what are the things that concern you most
at the prospect of sitting an exam. Would you spare a couple of
seconds to email me at cassiesimons@nospamExamsAreEasy.com (removing the "nospam"). and let me know
which of these YOU think are the top one, two or three biggest
worries?
1. "I’m not sure I’ve studied enough."
2. "I’m not sure I’ve studied the right stuff."
3. "I’m always nervous about exams."
4. "I know my stuff but Microsoft always try to catch you out
with trick questions!"
5. "I’m not good at remembering things."
6. "The exam format might be new or unexpected and that will
throw me off track."
7. Something else:________________________________________!
Thanks!

3. WORK SMART NOT HARD FOR YOUR CERT: JUST HOW EFFECTIVELY DO
YOU USE YOUR BRAIN WHEN STUDYING?
Your brain is an incredible organ. It contains more than 100
billion nerve cells through which electric pulses travel at more
than 250 miles per hour.
I’ve always been fascinated with learning about the brain and
how to use it – after all, with such a powerful device at our
disposal, it makes sense to spend some time understanding how it
works so that we can use it effectively as we study for our
certs!
It’s a shame that when a baby human is born, it doesn’t come
with a user manual! If we buy a computer, DVD player or washing
machine, we always get an instruction book of some sort. The
human brain is infinitely more complex but we have to learn how
to use it and tap into its potential by trial and error or – if
we’re lucky! – by finding and copying a good role model.
Many people use drab, lifeless ways of studying – reading text
books and making linear, colorless notes consisting of wordy
paragraphs or lists. Our brain is very adaptable and will cope
with these methods to some extent – but to really bring all your
resources into play, consider the following:
? Learning is easy if you learn while you play
? Learning is easy if you learn while you laugh!
? The human brain uses color and three dimensions vs
traditional note taking is black and white and one
dimensional
? Much of the functioning of the human brain works by
ASSOCIATION AND LINKING – which is why learning through
stories is so effective – as demonstrated by Jesus’ parables.
. . now there’s a role model
? The brain operates in a radiant, ever-widening web of
concepts – not in a linear fashion
? The brain prefers to dwell on pleasant images and thoughts
? Key words are more conducive to learning than are wordy
sentences
? The brain thrives on creativity and active participation
? Rhythm, rhymes and music are "music to the brain’s ear" and
help you remember things you would otherwise forget
? All your senses are important – your brain doesn’t learn only
visually but also through hearing and touch
I challenge you to think about your own learning methods and
consider which of the above you are using to your best
advantage!

4. JOKE
. . . and talking of brains . . .
A herd of buffalo can move only as fast as the slowest buffalo.
When the herd is hunted, it is the slowest and weakest ones at
the back that are killed first. This natural selection is good
for the herd as a whole, because the general speed and health of
the whole group keeps improving by the regular killing of the
weakest members.
In much the same way the human brain can only operate as fast as
the slowest brain cells. Excessive intake of alcohol, we all
know, kills brain cells, but naturally it attacks the slowest
and weakest brain cells first. In this way regular consumption
of beer eliminates the weaker brain cells, making the brain a
faster and more efficient machine. That's why you always feel
smarter after a few beers, and that's why beer is so GOOD for
you!
